Attila says: "Disclaimer: I don't dispute the value in Marco's comment, so don't take this post too seriously. I am just trying to have some fun by applying logic and rationality equally to all bonsai."
My question is this: Is bonsai a rational activity? When enduring an attack of rationality, I tend to wonder. A bonsai nut I am. Mike

BTW, according to some philosophers for the East, logic and rationality can be very dangerous and destructive, since it ignores basic human feelings. So lets keep bonsai irrational an superior to our everyday life! ![]() |

I figured this was the case. I haven't worked on ponderosa but watching a demo a couple of years ago with John Ramono he said that generally ponderosa needles will not reduce and are much too long for small trees. Great tree though Adam |

Adam,
Not having posted in ages here, I will reply to Adam's comment. Yes, I have found that it is VERY difficult to reduce the size of needles on Ponderosa. They make nice Larger bonsai. However, being that shohin sized bonsai are my first passion, I am working on 3 collected shohin sized Ponderosa Pine bonsai and am experimenting with ways of reducing the needles on them. One was a gift from Andy Smith after offering hospitality to him when he was in the New England area and the other was collected in the Rockies by another freind of mine - both under 6" in height. Hopefully, I will report back with some success. 10 years working with 15 of these babies and I haven't had much luck in reduction however (at least here in New England). If I can dig a couple of the shohin from my dormant greenhouse, I'll post a pic or two. However, this weekend is suppose to bring us a good dumping of snow! John Romano bunjingi@aol.com R.I. USA |

John,
Good to see you post here. The demo I am speaking of was at NE Bonsai I believe right after a winter care lecture you gave a couple of years ago. You gave the group a bunch of great info and being my first winter in bonsai saved all my trees. Thank you! I can't wait to see those pics Adam |
