Brian,

Is that just raffia to support the trunk in that bend?

I'm curious where it's going. Looks healthy too. How was the budding this spring?

Yes, I'm curious where it's going too.... First bend was to bring most of the foliage mass back over the trunk, and to get a bit of a feel for what it will take. Now at least the pot won't tip over. I could have bent more, I think, but I'll take it slow. Still lots of options for where to go next.

Yes, it is healthy, at least so far. Lots of budding this spring. I need to cut back some of those leggy limbs next year, and see how it back buds.

Brian, I've found that Ponderosas are more flexible than some other pines, and will tolerate lots of bending. It is a good idea to tightly raffia wrap for drastic bends.

Brian,
SWEET! Nice work, love the turnbuckles. Really good sweeping motion to it, from what I can tell, and as long as it's healthy, bend away. Real good work. Enjoying that new paradise?

A little more work on this one today. Now you can see where it's headed, I think. The photo angle is not quite right....should be lower to show of that first big snakey bend. The major branch to the left will be shortened or brought back in some. I broke one of the sub branches on it that I wanted to use, so I'm waiting to see if it survives my repairs.

Now that I look at the pic, I'm not sure about that jin on the right. The photo doesn't have the depth of field I would like. The jin is coming off the trunk well behind the major left branch. In the pic it looks too much like a bar branch, but not in person.

Anyway, I'll keep updating as I go along.

Edit: Photo #2 is a better angle. Photo #3 is closeup of the first bend.

This is looking good Brian. They bend so easily but I've noticed the sub branches snap off the trunk in a flash.
I'm panting for another one but Jason is trying to instill some patience to make sure they like it here, the young teaching the old. If mine was any healthier it'd be dancing around the yard.
