Please help ill bonsai pics included

in a previous thread i said i had a dying bonsai. i have posted pics of it on here, a pic of the full thing, and a close up. the leaves are really dry. it has recently been repotted due to the fact that there was practically no compost in it before because the roots were that out of control. any suggestions as to what species it is or what i can do to help it revive? it was repotted 3days ago - i know it would take time to get better but any suggestions welcome!

thank you all!

danny

The species is a Ligustrum/privet. You may try scratching a little bark back and checking the cambium for a moist green look. If you don't find moist green under the bark skin it is toasted.

Also give us the history of the tree, how long have you had it, where do you keep it etc.. . This will help us at least figure out where you went wrong. As far as saving it an evenly moist soil, good light and constant tempature avove 65f will help if it is still alive.

You can clean the dry crumbley stuff off if you like. It must have gone into shut down from neglect then or has dried up, you will have to let it be and see if it comes back. Remember not to overwater during this rehab time, just enough to keep the roots from going dry. What is the weather like outdoors over there, if the weather is nice outdoors will really help.

You will have to get a toothpick, put in the soil and once per day and check the soil, if you push the pick in and it comes out with wetness to it or some wettish soil stuck to it you can skip watering that day. When the toothpick comes out dry that means the middle of the soil is dry and needs a drink. This trick will get you started on learning when to water. In a small bonsai style pot is best to let the soil go nearly dry but never completely dry. Soil can dry out on the bottom or the top and still be wet in the middle, so checking throughly will help. With a good bonsai soil you can water daily but yours looks more like potting soil?

it was bonsai compost i bought, says formulated for bonsai trees lol. hope i picked the right one! most of the leaves have come off with the barest touch - most def crispy! its left with dozens of tiny little twigs - it all seems very cluttered and criss-crossed. should some of these irregular skinny twigs be removed? if so, with sharp secaturs? i have left some of the leaves that seem to have some moisture on the tree. sorry for all the questions, am just a newbie and dont wanna lose the tree! lol

thank you1!
