Nice stock Andy.

Bottom branch needs to come off if the trunk is thick enough - which it seems to be. Top section of the apex could go too - but I am viewing in 2D, so take that with a pinch of salt.

Then loads of wire...

Regards,

Fish.

IMO, there is too great of constrast between the lack of branches in the lower left quadrant and the rest of the tree. I like the fullness in the upper portion, but I'm not sure how I would compensate for the sparseness of the lower section without grafting. If it were my tree, I'd make the left branch the primary branch and wire it down to suggest age. I would then thin out the top section to harmonize with the lower part.

Since you seem in agreement about losing the lower right branch, I'm wondering if the back could become the new front. (A tough call without photos of that side of the tree.)

dont cut it!!!!!

stone monkey please do not remove that bottom branch it makes this tree complete. this is the most natural looking stock i have seen in a long time and i would love to see you style it in a maner such as mr walter pall would..

all that needs to be done is fix the apex up.and also thin the upper foliage a little bit attached is a quick virt..

cheers jarryd

I agree with JarryD in that my first reaction upon looking at this tree was to consider breaking the 1/3 rule by leaving the lowest branch if it can be wired or guyed down. of course if you left it you couldn't remove the branch immediately above it as it would leave too large a gap, unless you could somehow use the branches above that one to cover the gap.

however, the two branches there, one right above the other, probably doesn't work. its hard to tell depth in photos, as is being discussed in another thread currently. so its hard to say. it also occurs to me that the lowest branch does seem to lack significant taper, which could be another check against keeping it.

anyway, don't really have time to give it much thought, just thought i'd agree that you should take pause before taking off that lowest branch. nice piece of material there.

...only if you cut it off. thought police is no joke, is it?

sheesh yourself,

Edit: although you're right, fish, that it almost certainly would/should be treated as a sacrifice branch and removed. I merely wished to express that it perhaps could/should be given a second thought.

Look, I don't mean to be rude, but this virtual is an utter disaster of a pom-pom mallsai. It's hard to believe that the same person who has entered those beautifully styled (even if overly-groomed for my taste) contest trees has generated this aesthetic travesty.

Maria, is your post some sort of joke at Andy's expense?

Curious,
Carl
