Hmm, so from what your telling me that it's not a good idea to put them in rock-wool and put them under and 400 watt metal hallad (if that's the right spelling)? And also, in my area, it's starting to get cold, it's a pine so I figure it like the cold, so it's all right to put them in the ground outside when it gets about....40 F in my area?

Plant them in sand.

We have them here where I live.

Jack pine is a pioneer species. On the sandy soils we have here. When fire comes and destroys a forest, the jack pine cones open and spread their seeds along with Poplars or Aspens. Then as the years go by Red pine and Red Maple comes in and then White Pine, Hemlock and Sugar Maples come in along with all the understory trees and shrubs which comprise the Climax forest.
It's pretty cool.

I read an article on Jack pine about the fire thing, thats good old mother nature.
