wowow!!!! Fantastic material. You have many options with this tree. I would love to see one of the more expert virtual artists have a go at this. One of the obvious style is to tilt the tree to the right and have a nice informal upright. From there you have many many many branches to pick for the remaining tree.

Beautiful material. Good luck.

I did a very quick fix up of the trunk. I turned it to the position I would like. You have so many choices of branches to wire that I didn't attempt to style the branches. Just went for the overall shape for what I see.

Thanks for the virtual Dave, I really like it. The straight part in the lower trunk was bugging me. I picked up this tree at an old nursery for a great price. I look forward to working on this one.
thanks

This tree has a trunk caliper of 3 1/2" to 4". I would have to split the trunk to bend. Placing it at this angle would greatly help this tree out though. I haven't dug down to see what I have below the soil surface yet just poked around at the nursery. Hope it gets alot wider, you know how they usually put trees in the pot alot deeper then need be.

I agree with Geezer, pret-a-porter bonsai. Had a little fun with photoshop. Good luck!

You could find a very nice base further down or you could find a mass jumble of roots intertwined and hard to change. But I hope for the nice base. Good luck with this one. It would be a lot of fun.

Pinus Banksiana/schoodic.........Is it a grafted variety of Jack Pine? If so, have you found the graft? You may find one when you start digging around looking for roots.

We're in Jack Pine country up here in Wisconsin.

They grow up here in pure sand.

Clay,
I know what you mean, its just that straight part of the trunk that kinda draws my eye to it when I look at it. I guess when I style and wire it and place some branches it will take the eye to different part of the tree. Right now my eye goes to that straight part of the trunk.
This tree caught my eye from clear across the nursery though and I had to have it. It looked like it was styled somewhat at that distance. Got it home and you know, stared at it to much I guess.
Gary
I do not believe that it is a graft but if it is it was a darn good one. I went out tonight and squirrels kinda help me uncover little more of the trunk. I explored a little deeper and it does seem that it was planted a bit deeper then needed to be and the first large root is a couple inches further down. I estimate this tree to be around 20-30 years old. This species usually grows horizontally and used in rock gardens as a type of ground cover. I couldn't believe this but I did a search and found that to be fact.
Tofino: Thanks for having fun with photoshop I have got to give this virtual thing a go. My wife went out and got me paintshop pro
last year and been to busy to mess around with it, maybe this winter in between pot making.
