Pfitzer Update

Hello Everyone,

Here's an update on a previously posted pfitzer juniper.

http://forum.bonsaitalk.com/showthr...ghlight=pfitzer

A cleanup was done to remove weak foliage a little light wiring to put the strong foliage in place. Still a long way to go, but another step closer.

Regards,

David

Nice work David, have you found a pot for it yet?

David,

excellent job....a really nice tree

the only thing that i would suggest(and ofcourse it's just my opinion)is that the foliage on the lowest left branch that is directed back toward the trunk seems out of place

All I can say is great job and all in a remarkably short time. From the previous post you stated that it was collected in '02. I assume they are native junipers from your area or was it collected from a landscape?? how Tall is the tree??
Regards

I'll second Walter's idea.

David, I continue to be amazed at the Junipers you post. Pfitzer Juniper is not an easy variety to work with and to see what you have accomplished with this one really impresses me. Do you work with just about any variety of Juniper? I find myself wondering what you would accomplish with the Eastern Red Cedars native to this area. More than I ever will, I'd bet!

Paul,,,I've got a pot similar in design to the one in Walter's virt but not so nice a color. Still searching.

Andy,,,there are still a few extra branches here and there. When it fills in again, I'll take off whatever is being shaded out.

Jonathan,,,this was a strip mall landscape tree. It's almost 30" to tip of deadwood.

Walter,,,Carl Bergstrom had a similar suggestion when this tree was first posted. When it gets potted, this should not be difficult to accomplish with a guy wire. The entire foliage mass can be tilted with little or no rewiring of branches.

Fred,,,I had planned on collecting a couple of eastern red cedars this past spring from an old dump site, but never got the chance. I'm sure they'll still be there next year.

Thanks to everyone for the input.

Best Regards,

David

At the risk of boring you guys, here's one more. I spent a couple of hours carefully removing the layers of old bark to get to the beautiful red underneath. This is a virtual using Walter's suggested planted angle and pot. The distracting gin on the lower right was digitally removed until I get around to working on it for real.

Regards,

David

Truly impressive. I am inspired by conifers but don't have much luck with them. I'm not usually a big fan of jins and what-not but I really enjoy what you have done here.
