Ron,,,,good call on the t-bar jin. That will be the first thing to go as in Mikey's virt.

HeyMikey,,,, great virt and good call on the pot. I'll be searching the net to find one just like it.

Fred,,,, a pfitzer will never have the tight foliage of a shimpaku, but that doesn't make it unsuitable for bonsai. On larger size trees like this one, you can get away with the looser foliage if the design takes that fact into account. I have another pfitzer (a bargain nursery find) that I believe will be outstanding.

Carl,,,,I will seriously consider your suggestion when potting this tree. The pre-design sketch actually has a bit of clockwise tilt.

Thanks everyone for the helpful suggestions and comments.

Best Regards,

David

Interesting. In retrospect, I think I somewhat prefer your virtual with the counter-clockwise tilt, though of course that requires a bit more bending of the foliage. (Probably not a problem with this species.) Either way, I think it is important to get away from the directly vertical potting angle that you seem to have now in practice. I'll be interested to see what you decide.

Best regards,
Carl
