Pepper Tree - Suggestions?
Here is a Pepper Tree I acquired a short time ago for a good price
I haven't done anything to it yet, because it apparently just got back from the tree farm, so I'll give it some time to get over the shock of being repotted. Speaking of which, it is still in the plastic pot (5 or 10 gallon, not really sure), would it be alright for me to repot it again? Pot ideas would also be good ![]() ![]() |

Re: Pepper Tree - Suggestions?
Here is my virtual of the tree. It looks a little bare on the left side like this, but if it fills itself out it could look nice. The length of the trunk isn't very proportional in the original tree as you can see...

An alternative approach - keep that lower left branch!
(I personally would not repot now, but instead wait until next spring. Others may have a different opinion) ![]()

Re: Pepper Tree - Suggestions?
Oh - if it isn't clear from the virtual, I
1) took out the upper of the two furthest-left branches 2) put one to two years of foliage on the tree 3) cheated a bit, adding a branch on the left of the main trunk. Hopefully this tree buds back, making this feasible... Cheers, Old Mister

Re: Pepper Tree - Suggestions?
One other thought - dig down and check out the root base before you clip that lower left branch as in your virtual. I wouldn't be surprised if you've got an extra inch or so of trunk, in which case the lower left branch is more desirable.

Re: Pepper Tree - Suggestions?
Thanks a lot! That looks good, I guess I have been too impatient and just want to get hacking
Do you know of any good techniques to grow a branch in that specific area, or is it just a matter of chance? Thanks! |

Re: Pepper Tree - Suggestions?
Shambhala,
Well, I'd hope that the tree would bud back - but I don't know anything about that particular species. If it doesn't bud back, I'd try a thread graft or similar. Cheers, Old Mister
