Patience Rewarded

Today I recieved a little compensation from all the patience I have exercised over the last two years. I bought this quince about two years ago and have been trimm8ing and pruning for shape. Each spring I wait for buds, but nothing.

This is after the repot earlier this year.

I decided to take a few pictures of the trees today and started to carry this one in. This is the way it looks today with the new leaves and a special surprise not visable in the pic...

just wait...

Near the upper left portion of the tree I had my first bloom.

Yahoo! I figured this tree would never flower. I decided to capture the moment since this may be the only flower I get this year. I am sure now that with the proper fertilizer regimen and the major pruning out of the way, I can have a tree full of blooms next year.

Bonai-Al,
Just great! I just love the quince flowers. I have two quince growing in the garden and they flowered for the first time last year. Just fantastic! Of course the deer had fun with them this winter. Still lot's of buds left after feeding the deer.

One question: My quince are two to three years from potting them, but I'm imagining a nice green or even red glazed pots. Is this a 'grow' pot or did you come to this selection? Don't get me wrong, it works nicely, I'm just curious.

Deacon

Bonsaial,

I would love to see the tree, but for some reason I'm having difficulty with images loading on this site. None are displayed on your post, and when I go to the member's gallery, only some of the posts have images (like 25.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

John

Hi Al, lucky you! the tree will look even better next year with even more flowers!

Deacon, as far as i'm aware flowering bonsai are normally shown in flat colours (glazed or unglazed), colours that are not bright. This way when in bloom the pot does not detract from the image by over powering the flowers and instead acts as a foil for the flowers. There are some exceptions however. Am I right in thinking this Al?

John I'm not.

Regards Jonny.
