Pardon my poor accent

Perhaps it's silly to be growing an accent without any trees worthy of showing, but this thing just started growing in one of my pots, so I'm enjoying it.

I was in a rush to get pix with flowers, so pardon the inappropriate background and poor lighting. Now I have to go pack to move.

BTW, what is this?

Hello Pootsie,

That's a pretty nice accent you've got there.

Looks like oxalis regnellii 'rubra-alba'

Oxalis are quite invasive, you might not want to be encouraging them in bonsai pots...

Regards,

Chris.

ps a link

pps I don't think it's silly to grow accents without having show quality trees. I do and I haven't.

I figured Treebeard would post in the "Silly Accents" thread...

Ditto!

Kusamono is an artform in its own right, and can easily be enjoyed as such.

It's a real shame we miss out on the accents of the forum posters, I feel we'd all be able to have a good old laugh at one or two of us.

Not silly at all. They can be enjoyed in their own right, and if you belong to a club that put on an exhibit, there is always a need for accents.

If oxalis gets in your bonsai, ROUNDUP will make short work of it. I know that this scares some people, but I've been using it for 20 years with no problems. Beats pulling the weeds as you never get all the roots and the weed always comes back.

Mike,

this Roundup thing is very interesting. Do you actually spray it onto the weed or the whole soil surfuce? If on the whole surface all moss and algae will die. Do you protect the tree somehow?

BTW: If someone wants oxalis, you can have a couple of thousand from my garden. It is the most invasive weed I have ever experienced. It goes from bonsai pots into the garden. And you cannot stop it - no way!

Walter,
Jim Smith, Jim VanLandingham, and I also use roundup on weeds in our trees. The most important thing is to make sure that the roundup does not touch the foliage on the tree. Paying attention when you spray is the only thing you have to do. There is no need to cover the plant though. It is great for someone who has too many trees to keep track of weeding.

Thanks all for the input.
Of course I weed my pots regularly, but this oxalis is mighty pretty so I gave it its own pot to "invade." My GF had been growing some as houseeplants, and I think it flowered and got into my indoor growing setup

When the landlord had a patch of weeds taken out with RoundUp, I think the wind caught it and it hurt my chinese elms something awful. No other trees got hurt but the chinese elms were in sad shape for a few weeks. See picture.

Being from the midwest of the USofA, my accent is not silly at all.
