I'm not sure if you intended to bring this up or if it just popped in to my head all on it's own (that is doubtful...) but what is the protocol on the tree owner stepping in to "defend the tree" or reply to the comments? That type of action can certainly make a mess of a thread in a hurry.

Well thats the 64,000 dollar question ain't it?

For me, when I put up a tree. I don't want anyone telling me that my tree needs so and so. I put it up for the beauty of (hopefully) and to get some cheers or jeers. I respect someone that says: "sorry Al that one just don't do it for me." I can deal with that. Different strokes. I could care less if someone tells me that I need to ramify the tree or it has a bulge, or the chop hasn't healed properly. DUH! This isn't the Mr. Obvious show.

Thats me. Thats Mike Page, Thats Thomas Mozden. These guys are secure in the fact that they know how to make bonsai. Just because every tree doesn't blow your skirt up mean that it deserves to be picked apart. Its not yours.

Now, I know that there are some here that actually want someone to help them with their tree with actual instruction and everything. I think anyone posting a picture of work and asking for instruction better have a thick skin if its just ordinary and blah. Some things just should not even be posted yet, and thats hard on a forum with so many beginners. That is just the nature of the beast. The thing is those that post trees have to be scrupulous about who they take information from and this should be done by reading a body of work left by those that wish to opine.

I think a poster will have to preface their offering with what you seek in the way of help. My question was "where should it go". All I needed is hey Al that looks like its on the right path. Or Al that tree is out of balance and here's why. All the nit picky stuff about photo's crappy and jins and sharis are useless. They do nothing to forward anything about the tree.
Then it will be up to me to determine if you know what your talking about or if you just finished reading Bonsai Today #107.

Cheers, Al

Al you make a very interesting subject for the science of psychology. What you set out to display, was in your mind, a thread to provoke comment in the positive sense for this tree without clarifying your motives. This unfortunately has backfired but you still persist in justifying how clever you think you are by posting long and hard. As an employer I have met many people who ingratiate themselves as the next big thing but sad to say they don't impress me at all. I find it terrible that you treat people with contempt and that you regard yourself as an elevated person to master status. You have posted many threads which were informative of course and appreciated by many but that is where you should have remained instead of taking up the mantle of all seeing all knowing everything.

Presented with this tree I set out to give my opinion as to why I thought it may be a good bunjin, simple as that. I had no idea it had been neglected after Marco had worked on it. I did not alter the canopy but removed the straggly area below. I was not being trite by my virt but indicating my viewpoint as to the trees' future, can you grasp that? If this is what happens to trees after being styled by a true artist then I shudder.

I do hope you will be able to grasp the English language and learn to spell much better next time you post.

Good effort though.

O.K. Al.Post some more trees....we'll only say if we like it or don't like it.

HEY!..that sounds fun, instructional and most of all enlightening!
Or maybe we should limit it to a poll......1...Like it?
2...Don't like it?

I don't know.....hhmmmmmm?........those selections are a bit wordy. How about just "thumbs up" and "thumbs down" little thingies.

That ought to limit all of our stupid, uneducated ramblings. And then you could tell us why we are wrong if we don't like it.

I would much rather know why someone liked or dissliked a tree or certain features of said tree. This is one way in which we grow as artists/craftsmen.
