OMC's Procumbens Project
At the same time that I bought those shimpaku junipers, I also picked up a procumbens 'nana' in a 5-gallon can. Another learning tree, for me - this one was interesting because of the pronounced veins of live wood. Here was the tree as I bought it:

After a preliminary cleaning-out, here's what I've got:

A closer look at the trunk line:

And one more, from a slightly different angle.

Finally, an alternative front.
Where you folks think I should go with this tree? Again, I've got my ideas, and I'll post them shortly - but first I'd like to hear what you'd do. Best wishes, Carl

Those trees are great that you are posting, do you mind if I ask how much you pay for raw material? I don't have a Bonsai nursery close, so I have no idea what a Juniper like this would cost.
Thanks ![]() Jason |

Hi Jason,
I don't mind at all. This tree, and the two shimpakus posted earlier, were each $50, which I think is a fair price, not a bargain but not a rip off by any means. Each was in a 5 gallon can with a 1" to 1 1/2" trunk. Best regards, Carl

Here's a virtual from what I initially thought should be the back. I still think it should probably be the back, but I wanted to post it, just for fun. It's not particularly creative or inspired, but I think it would be pretty do-able.
More questions, as usual: Comments on this one, or on what I should do if I use the other side for the front? Which should I use for the front? Somehow the planting angle that I chose for this virtual seems insipid to me. Why? What would be a better planting angle? -Carl

Very nice piece of material you have there Mr Crow, I think it will make a fine Bonsai which ever way you go with it.
