This has got to be one of the greatest reposts I have seen on the boards in a long time. Cutting off the thicker branches was a real plus for this trunk. The branches are starting to look good and I think your on your way to something great here.

Thanks for updating us on the start of something great.

I like this, finally something positive about bonsai.

Hey Al, yeah it sure is good to toss some ideas around before taking the plunge, twelve months on, how time flies!

Hi treenut,

Your olive is going to be a beauty in a few years time. Impressive base ! Maybe you should work on the chop in the top of your tree to make the taper look more natural.

regards, René

Rene, it could sure use a tidy up in places but I have only been concentrating on getting the branches going for the time being, maybe once it's pot ready I'll go to work on it with the carving tool.

Buy Olive Stump

I am interested in working with an Olive Stump ( as above), but don't know where to get/buy one. I live in Indiana and we don't have them readily available like many of you do. If you have some suggestion on where/How and can obtain one I would appreciate it, or even if someone wanted to make a little extra cash, please let me know.

Regards,

Tonjo

Hi I thought I'd just update this thread and show the progress this Olive has made so far if anyone is interested, it has suffered some dieback on the front which shouldn't cause any problems, I thought at one stage I may lose the lower right branch due to bark die back and that sure would have caused some problems with the design, anyway I let the lower right branch just go nuts with lots of sacrifice branches and it seems to be building up quite well, I've air brushed the picture to remove the sacrifice branches as it looks quite unsightly with these.
What do you think?
