This looks like a very nice stump to work with. It has great shape, movement and taper.

The lowest branch looks too low, and the second one up is about right given the flare and shape of the trunk.

A branch on the opposite side up somewhat higher where it looks like there is a bud already formed will fill in nicely on that side, and you will need a back branch somewhat between the two.

Regards,

Matt

I would cut it a little higher than your Chop here point. Maybe just beneath that little sprig of foliage on top. In general you cut where the taper and movement stops, which would be about 1/2 way up the straight section.

Hey Rip, Just wondering what your thinking is for the future of the tree. I think the sling shot design has got to be the hardest one to make look good. IMHO, the tree is too symetrical when chopped like that.

I see a mother/ daughter design here. Keepin the lower branch and removing the middle branch. Chop the apex down the the small leader and let it taper from there. Something like this:

And who knows, in a couple of years it could look like this:

Just to be a contrary bastard, I'll point out that I don't really like the mother-daughter design there because the daughter comes out from the side opposite the bulk of the nebari - seems implausible to me.

Am I missing something? (That's a genuine question, not another jab.)

Al I will go with Mr Crow and remove the pocket branch. The second branch could be shortened (owners choice) I left it in my vertual because of the two branches the upper comes off the trunk on the outside of the curve of the trunk. I really dislike pocket branches just my own feelings.
