old juniper
well here is another juniper. It was purchased a while back in sick condition and then it got spider mites. So it should green back up around sept. (hopefully)
If i can suggest anything, don't purchase sick trees no matter what kind of deal it is (unless free ). Its really not worth the stress in loosing a tree liek this. SOmetimes you just have to learn the hard way. The old front is shown, but it time the back will be the new front probably.Besides it looking sick, and constructive critism? I know the background isn't the best. or any suggestions on assuring it back to health. THanks... CCbonsai |

Re: old juniper
do I ever agree with you! I have several junipers that I "made" sick...let them get root rot. I don't know if they will ever recover. The only suggestion I would make is to take it out of the pot immediately, and without disturbing the roots put it in a growing box or very large plastic pot or even in the yard. Give it maximum chance to develop roots and get a lot of moisture and nutrients. You are probably going to have to nurse it back to health, hope it eventually starts throwing out new buds so you can prune it back.
Great tree and certainly worth trying to save. |

Re: old juniper
I agree with you 98%...
I would say, "Never buy a sick tree for more than you would pay for the pot!" I have had two successes by following this rule, and one dismal failure when I did not. I think the pot will be okay as a recuperating area. The pot seems large and the soil looks porous. Junipers seem to thrive on the heat that the ceramic can collect in the sun, too. Regards, Matt

Re: old juniper
A very nice bonsai!
I think you should buy a tree like this if it is very cheap, because you can always graft a young juniper to the beautiful deadwood even if it dies. It probably wouldn't look any worse than the way it originally was. Zeb

Re: old juniper
I just hope it makes it!
So long as you keep the spider mites off and the roots are healthy, it should make it. I'd hate to loose a tree like that juniper.
