Here's a pic taken on April 29th. This coming autumn. I'll be thinking about a bunjin pot for it. I think I have one, but it has another tree in it, It will be pot switch time.
Thanks for remembering this tree.

Would any of the virtual masters like to put this tree in a bunjin pot? Have a go.

Mike

hey mike, maybe I'm just not looking close enough, but where is the live vein on the tree? That's the first thing I thought when I saw the new, skinny version, 'what's keeping this tree alive?' Did you leave some cambium intact on the backside?

Billy, there is lots of live vein, it just doesn't show much. Look about halfway up on the left side and you'll see part of it. It would be good if more showed, but this is how it worked out.

Been trying on some new pots.

The first two pots are by Dale Cochoy
The second two are by Petra Hahn
The third set is by Horst Heinzelreiter
The fourth set is by Sarah Raynor

Nothing really feels totally right yet, but I think a bowl shape might be preferable over a straight sided drum pot. The slanted sides seem to compliments the direction of the trunk a bit more.

Dale should really get his website up and running, and put a catalogue out there! He's got some of the nicest stuff around, but it's a hassle going through all the threads to find his pots.

pot opt.

Hey Mike here's a pot that I made, complete with wire notches on either side of the drainage hole, a couple of years ago, from a cement fondue, heavy hyper-tufa, type mix,...I used some spray paints on the outside of the pot and then buried the thing in some good ole GA. dirt for about 6 months,...it really has the appearance, now of carved stone. If your not up for making something like this yourself, this pot is for sale, and I'd love to see such a nice tree in it,...I did a quick virt to see how it might look, and I tried to get it pretty close to scale, according to the 30" height of the tree, and the aprox. 12" lip of the pot. If you, or anyone else for that matter, are interested ,please PM me about it.

Stefan, you've done very good virtual work. I agree that a straight sided pot doesn't work well here. Of all the pots, I particularly like the Dale pot thats on the right. The movement of the glaze seem to work with the movement of the trunk.

Glad you like the virts. Compared to Dale's pot, I also like the somewhat softer and rounder shape of the first Sarah Raynor pot. I agree with you on the glaze on Dale's, it really better suited, and the echo of the trunkline in the glaze is a happy coincidence.
