What interesting contorted trunks... have you been training them long?

All projections look quite attainable...I especially like number two.

Karl these trees are wonderful!

I love the bark and the movement of the trunks. What species of oak are these? Quercus Robur? Quercus frainetto?

Whatever they are, they are going to be great bonsai!

All the best,

Aaron

Karl,
I'm usually a big fan of your work....but they all look like pines. Oak spread out and up, contorting their branches. Oak #2 looks most unnatural. You have lots of ramification, why not try moving upward, and outward, instead of triangular.

Hi Karl
You have great material here, but I must disagree with your stylings plans. They all seem too much in the pine/juniper look. To me they don't look at all like oaks, IMHO. I hope you reconsider.

Regards

Mike

Persist, and someday you may see the peak in sunshine. You may pick up the stone and it's a thing of beauty.

I like no. 1 the most.

I do agree with these others that your trees don't look like oaks in nature. But, your trees have trunks unlike any a natural oak, so it wouldn't make sense to take the material you have and not train it in what you see is the best interpretation of the material because of the species.

I think this might be a case of reverse naturalism. The styling set forth by Karl are probably the best visions for these trees, but just because of the species, the vision is seen as unfitting? To me this is the same as trying to make a myogi Zelkova from a chopped stump. I think you should determine styling based on the individual tree, not on the species.
