New Trident Forest with Sonlight trees

A few members of our club formed a forest study group this winter.
We met several times, watched DVD’s, flipped the pages of books and magazines, ate good food and generally just shared our common interest.

One of the places we reached out to for material was Sonlight Nursery.
Sandy Anderson, proprietor of Mill Brook Bonsai, contacted Frank and took care of the purchase and shipment.

The trees arrived Friday with a few of them beginning to leaf out.
Saturday I picked out 11 and spent the day constructing my forest.

The pot is oval and oversize, ultimately I would like a shallow rectangular pot with more negative space left and right for a more formal look, but that could be years away. Right now I'm hoping for a smooth recovery.

Just wanted to say thanks to Frank. This was one of the best deals on starter trees I've ever received.

Patrick

Good Morning and Happy Easter,

Looks like you got a great start on this forest. I see you're using that bigon that was in the group. I'll look forward to seeing the forests progress.

Jay

Looks good!
What is the size of the pot?
(Can you believe that OKC club members don't go to his place? Crazy Huh?)

Happy Easter as well to you Jay. I'll probably have to bring this back to the greenhouse, since it's still winter outside, so you should get a chance to critique it in person.

Irene, the pot is a 17" oval and 3" deep. The number 1 tree is 1.5" diameter above the nebari. Terrific prices on quality stock with excellent customer service, I guess their loss is our gain.

Patrick, What a great approach to learning about techniques and styling! And what a great way to deal with the realities of winter in Vermont when one's trees are tucked away for their long winter's nap.
I, for one, am going to work on this very type of winter study group for next winter. This one was pretty tough on us!

Nice work on the forest! When it starts to branch out, don't fail to prune to more natural tops on the trees. It's a mistake I made years ago with a forest that was otherwise lovely but very clunky at the top.

CK is right, if you go to Frank's, prepare to work. Then he won't ever sell me anything. I would even pay whatever he wants. He says he wants to wait and see how it turns out. He knows if I buy it and does turn out to be something special, he will have to listen to me rag on him about how cheap I bought it. I guess he figures if it goes halfway across the country, he won't ever see it again. Arkansas,Kansas and Texas is as close as he will sell to

Thanks for the tip Chris. And yes, the winters are long here in Vermont, the camaraderie helps fend off cabin fever.

Harry, the Mustang was rebuilt as a GT350H clone more than 20 years ago using many original Shelby parts. (Before the explosion in price of anything associated with Carroll Shelby.) You can't tell it's not an original without looking at the serial number.

Patrick,
I'm old enough to have rented one and took it to the dragstrip. Had a lot of fun that day.
