New Olives and Bougs.

Thought i would post some pics of last weekends efforts. I went out and dug a few more olives. They are long term projects but i think that the basics are there and ive got plenty of time to wait. Also i will post some pics of quite big Bougs that i have being digging up over the last month or so and they to are future stuff, but they have all survived the collection process and are showing new growth.
1583 has a base of 16cm and is 40cm tall (Olive)
1584 has a base of 22cm and is 56cm tall (Olive)
1587 has a base of 10cm and is 30cm tall, this tree was collected a few months back and has good new growth, all the others are only recently collected. (Olive)
1578 has a base of 22cm and is 56cm tall (Boug)
1586 has a base of 20cm and is 63 cm tall (Boug)
1588 has a base of 16cm and is 50cm tall (Boug)

Looking forward to your comments and looking forward to next summer!

Bougs

I think your bougs are better than the Olives and look like they are the framework for some great trees.

I agree, the bougs are good material, but the olives arnt shown as good as they should be, there is sooo much more tree under the surface! They have the most amazing spread under the soil. I didnt take any root with them at all (or the bougs for that matter) I have 1 more Boug to get yet, and its a big sucker! 1.5 mtrs tall and about 60cm base with great movement and taper also, have to wait untill the end of winter before i can get to it though......

peter,
Sorry i didnt get back to you on collecting bougs. I find i do try to get some root mass if possible but have noticed some of the larger ones have LARGE roots masses . One Large boug i collected in particular had over a 6 feet diameter root ball!.
Having said that i have found up here anyway they can be root pruned heavy with succuss. I even got my hands on one was is over 70 years old. I know that for a fact as they were planted when this building was built. Two took off and now are a height around 30 feet. This one however was planted too deep i think and struggled growing about two meters along the ground. The council just pulled it up to replace it and snapped the trunk off. It had two tiny little feeder roots on the top part of the trunk when it was given to me.
9 weeks on the thing is growing well , even back budding a foot up the trunk?
As long as the temperature is right i think youll have no problems. Watch the water, Ill try to post these bougs for you to look at

good luck

They are all European Olives. It must be hard work digging Bougs up that way! I dont take anything under the widest part of the base. I just dig a small hole around and under the base to take a look and provide a clear area to cut and then just chainsaw them off. Havent lost any yet! I have used to types of rooting hormone, 1 Rootone. 2 Super thrive. Both seem to deliver the same outcomes. However rootone is considerably cheaper!
