NEW GUY NEEDS ADVICE AND CRITICISM_Japanese Maple _Shimpaku.

This is my 2 new lil guys (Japanes Maple/Acer Palmatum)I bought them from a road-side vendor named Lim's Bonsai (based out of Gardena, CA) here in Las Vegas. A couple members in my bonsai club advised against buying from a vendor like this guy. But, I am a free bird, so I decided to stop and take a look one day. I'm very much attracted to the maple species and Japanes Maple trees this size in Las Vegas are RARE! So I decided 20 bucks isn't bad at all. I noticed some of the leaves are kinda wilted and maybe a lil yellow spots from the sun. This is why I am posting this pictures as to get some advice to keep the trees strong and healthy. The vendor from which I brought had no shade on teh trees and as far as I know is out on the street corneer often. This is why I think it maybe too much sun or lack of water. Sorry for the whole biography but here are the pics. Any help advice and comments would be helpful.

EDIT: Photos removed for being too large. Please repost them as a reply to this thread or ask for help)

This is my Shimpaku bonsai I have had for about 3 months. I bought it at a local nursery and had one of the Las Vegas Bonsai Society member transplant with new bonsai soil as well as trimmed and watered roots. Any suggestions or criticism would be greatly appreciated. As you can tell I am new to this and plan to continue to flourish and learn with the rest of you.

Hi GoZu! Welcome to the forum! First bit of advice is to learn to resize and attach your photos in the format we prefer here on bT. That way they are easier for other people to load, and take up less bandwidth. Here's a little tutorial:

Photos are best saved as ".jpeg", and compressed with photo editing software to a maximum size of 800 x 800 pixels and a maximum file size of 75kb.

Save these in an easy to locate folder on your desktop, then decide which section of the site is best to locate your post and accompanying photographs.

At the lower left of each thread you will see "post reply"..... or if you wish to start a new topic, at the top and bottom of each specific forum is the link "start thread".

The dialogue box will then open and you will be able to add your text to requirements.

To upload the photographs, our member Treebeard has a great tutorial located here . . .

Hope that helps, but if you have any further problems, just ask.

You have 24 hours to edit any post that you make, so please take a moment to practice the editing and attaching. You can use "Area 51" of the forum for testing the use of the attachments, and then come and edit this post.

Nice maple btw!

Joanie

I hate to tell you but the best thing you can do for the maples is plant them in the ground in a shady spot and try to keep them alive. In your climate you will loose them in a bonsai pot. That's not to say you can't put them back in a bonsai pot for show one day but the chances of them "growing" in a bonsai pot are slim at best. The shimpaku will be a better match for your climate.

Good luck...

Tim

Gozu: I edited your photos because they were too large. If you pm me or any of the moderators, we can help you to put them back up as thumbnails linking to larger versions.

Sorry!
