New Flowering tree
I just bought this tree. It is called a Lorapetalum Chinense "Sizzling Pink". I'm thinking about an informal upright style. I liked the trunk movement and the small bright pink flowers (sorry no photo's of the flowers yet). The tree is 17 inches tall and in a 6 inch deep pot to promote growth in the canopy. Tell me what you think... Thanks

I started work on one of these about a year ago. So far, so good. Loro & I are learning together, so I won't try to give you advice on best development ideas for your tree.....We can trade results as time goes on. I'm working on branch trimming to get the new shoot where I want it - Loro has a tendency to send a new shoot out from main/secondary branch juncture instead of the end of secondary branch where I want it....Not always, but enough times to be irritating.
The leaves are reducing as I prune branches. Observation at the local nursery....Loropetalums bloom on the tips of new growth. While I'm working on the ramification (branch tips grow out 5-7 leaves, I snip 'em off)....no pretty flowers. But we ARE making progress. I will get back to the flowers in the not too distant future! Maybe I'll let Loro be shaggy next spring.... ![]() |

Larry Mac, this picture was taken in my backyard at night. The tree is sitting on my sun bench, at the end of my bench I have a 6 foot tall 4"x4" with a 100 watt floodlight on it to provide light. I typically use the light to work on my tree's at night as you might imagine. The camera I use is a Sony CyberShot 3.2 meg digital camera; the night photo feature produces the dark backgound while allowing the object being photographed to be seen naturally. I filter the flash with a plain piece of white paper folded in half and completely covering the flash. I kind of stumbled across the results but in my opinion it produces a photo that is rich in color. I got the idea from Collin Lewis's webpage gallery of his own trees.
Forest Reef, thanks for sharing with me about your Loro. I have never heard of anybody else doing a Loro. Can you post a picture of your tree? |
