new collected bougy

heres a bougy i collected yesterday from my nans garden. its pretty much been cut back to the right shape.

its about 30cm tall with a 10cm base. i basically have an idea how i will style this but thought id see what you guys though i should do with this. with my climate and the prolific growth of this species i will be able to start work either next spring or summer.

and virtual artists who would like some practice this is the perfect opertunity. this tree is rotting hollow under that large first brach so take that into mind whilst creating ur virtual.

cheers jarryd

Red Leaf semi cascade

looks like it is shaped for a semi-cascade because of the thick branch already in the direction you need to achieve this style

Jaryd you lucky dog!

I would love to get my hands on a bougy like that at the price you paid! A lot of the older bougainvillia ive seen have had wonderful granrly, deadwood trunks, hollowed out spots, etc. Youve got a blank canvas with this tree...im quite envious!

I would go for informal upright and put some dramatic effect into the trunk. good luck!

Nice look so far. I do question why you have chosen to place it in a bonsai pot so early. It still needs a substantial amount of branching to grow for you to achieve what you are proclaiming in the virtual that you have provided us. Confining the root system to a bonsai pot will only slow this process down.

this is only 7 months after collection this tree is amazingly vigourous. i do not beleive movin the tree into a smaller pot will prohibit styling as before it was growing to fast to wire. the wires cut in after 1 week of aplication. the tree will reach the required form in as short a time as two growing seasons an wil then be refined.

Looks good. Keep choping away. You have done the mortal sin and jumped the gun puting it in small pot. Strip it down to a core, put in large grow pot to get new branch structure and then think about that bonsai pot. Very nice!
