brilliant! i have another one, but it was pretty dead when i picked it up. leaves are all crispy and had practically no compost in pot, so repotted and pruned foliage in the hopes that it will revive. would be a shame for it to die! how often should they be given bonsai feed?

sorry, just a couple more questions.

firstly, how often and how should i water? i know i shouldnt let the soil dry out completely, is twice weekly sufficient? and i have heard mixed reviews on watering it - should i water from top or from beneath? if from beneath, how long should i generally leave it immersed for?

secondly, how do i harvest the seeds? i know now that it produced berries eventually, so i need to pick seeds from them? id like to grow from seed, even though it takes a lot of years!

and finally, should i be concerned that the trunk is really thin? it looks almost too frail to hold the foliage! should i try to do anything about that?

again, thanks if you can answer any of these!!! search engines produce about a hundred different answers to the same question, so advice from someone who has personal experience with one is very beneficial!

Hi aesir,

You can go to: http://www.bonsai4me.com/SpeciesGuide/SpeciesIntro.html for most of your questions. Harry Harrington is an accomplished bonsai artist, and has a lot of knowledge to share. Another good thing for you is that he is in the U.K also.

Enjoy your bonsai...

Cheers!

Brian
