My show

I am still new here and still a beginner to Bonsai.
I have no actual bonsais yet but are working on a few candidates. I have made this thread to show you guys what I've got to work with. These are all trees that I've collected from the wild. I would appreciate any suggestions or comments that anyone has to offer.

Here are 2 Willow trees that I am working with. I dug them up with roots, cut the top and the leavs off and put them in these pots.

Here is a nece little Juniper I collected. It stands about 3' with the pot. Not sure what to do with it yet. Its so pretty I might just plant it in my back yard and let it grow.

Here is a little Juniper with about a 3/4" trunk. I chopped the top off about a week ago. It seems like it will make it. There were no lower branches to leave. I plan to make it a formal upright.

Dig yourself another 12-16 cypresses and make a grove.

This is a nice way to develop materials that aren't quite ready for bonsai, and also to learn something in the process. It's actually easier to make a passable forest out of imperfect material and a great way to start learning about bonsai, plus the larger container size that the forest/growing box has will increase the trees odds of survival with less-than-perfect care.

You can follow how Sankastaff created his grove here:

Regards,

Matt

Here is another one that I did the same thing. The trunk is a little smaller so I might make him an Informal.

Here is a great little tree with alot of potential. I really dont want to kill this on so someone please give me some advice on how to treat it. I just pulled it up today and think I didn't leave enough roots. Gosh I hope it makes it.

Cut back the foliage by half or two-thirds, whatever it takes to balance out the available root system, and it should do OK. I would probably cut it back to that large branch headed off to the left at 45 degrees. That would probably be the new apex anyway.

Regards,

Matt
