My red pine
This is a tree I picked up last year. I don't have a before pic and wish I did...truly a great transformation here as all the foliage was out at the ends of very long straight branches. Anyway, it has tolerated some serious bending (last year) and root pruning ( this year) and is budding out well.

Dave, I now cannot make up my mind which tree I like better, the yew or the pine.. Best to let them stay in my yard for a decade or so until I make up my mind. ha hah aha ha hah

Nice tree. Looks stressed, but a good year and it should be running right along. It is densiflora, what is your needle and bud management strategy for it (being in New England and not the warm South..)?

I opted not to pull needles last fall...I did remove a fair amount in March of this year prior to some light wiring. I think that may be where the "stressed" look is coming from...it seems to be doing well right now. My plan is to break the candles as needed later this year...I did do a fairly extensive re-pot in 3 weeks ago, so I'm not sure how vigorous the candles will be. If the tree does well, I may pull some needles this fall..we'll see. Thanks, Dave |

Nice tree, as he said with envy. I would like to add a red pine to my collection, but no luck yet, Kirby beat me to a nice one .

I was very lucky finding this one...it was stuffed in a corner of a greenhouse at New England Bonsai and I was able to get it for 25% off during their member day celebration last year. It looked like a dog at the time and the regular price was reasonable to begin with, so I got a great deal. I'm very happy to have it. Thanks,
