Hi Patrick,

Nice tree. The first thing I would suggest doing, is exposing the roots and seeing what you have in the way of nebari. This will help you in deciding what is going to be the front of the tree, and aid in which branches you are going to keep/lose as a result.

Temporaily disregarding the nebari, here is a basic virt of what some removal of branches would look like with regard to the basic structure of the tree, with an eye to later working on ramification.

Regards,

Aaron

Heres a partial virt I did on the bonsaitalk editing thingy. I was going to combine a photoshop virt but my photoshop is messing up and ahh so heres this, gives you an idea anyways. I just think theres too much going on in there, and you might be able to get a air layer from it, but the huge knob in the middle of the 3 branches is strange looking imo and just has to go.

Like Aaron_K said, working with nebari would be a good idea, looks like you already have some good stuff working with you.

Hope this helps.

In the basic virt I did, the tree looks quite haunting, with the gnarled twisted trunk and branches being reminisent of being found in an old, dark forest inhabited by a witch.

I think you would do well to further envoke this into the tree to help create a "personality". A perfect example of this, and I apologuise for embaressing her, is Candy_J_Shireys stunning Rhododendron. (Which I'm still waiting for in the mail Candy hun $5 right?? )

The gnarled twisted nebari add to the effect of your tree Patrick, although you might consider unravelling them and creating more of a "fingers" clasping into the soil effect.

Warmest regards,

Aaron
