Re: My new aquisition!plz help!

If I had to guess, I would say it is some kind of Ficus...but I'm certainly not sure...

If it needs repotting, I would do a root trim and put it back in the same pot. Personally, I think the tree has great potential as it is...I don't think it needs a training box. The foilage has gone wild so I wouldn't worry about the trunk, I would see if I could develop some nice foilage without all the ugly branches growing everywhere. If other people concur on the species, do a search for "______ bonsai" and study all the ways of developing a tree like this. Then you will get a good idea of how to prune the branches.

Maybe somebody will even do a virutal. I have to admit, this one is beyond me.

Great tree, so take you time, It is a bargain for $10.

Here I go, thinkin outside of the box again. This kinda thinkin will get ya in trouble. I rotated the tree 90 degrees to the left. built a new crown, and planted in the pot that was saved on my hard drive. Not my first pot choice, but this is just to give you an idea that trees don't always grow verticle.

Re: My new aquisition!plz help!

I just saw a picture of a Long Island Ficus and the leaves looked exactly like yours. So now I'm even more sure it's a ficus.

I don't know, Al... That's way outside the box but then maybe you will start a new trend! I once had an acquiantance that was a little wierd and she got bored with a traditional Christmas tree, so she hung her tree from ceiling...upside down!! That one didn't start a new trend, however.

Re: My new aquisition!plz help!

hi maeko
i just wanted to say that your tree is a ligustrum that you can get very cheaply any where , they air layer them from big trees and then say it's a bonsai .But no no , it's a bonsai only after the training you give t the tree and the care and attention you dedicate to it. So i hope that it will help you.
Read about bonsai and also about ligustrum; they dont tolerate too much water so be careful cause this will kill them very easily
bye
