My first try at a forest

This is my first try at a forest. 5 tree trident maple on a rock. I picked the rock up for $1.50 and drilled a few holes in it for drainage.
The only think I am slightly worried about, it the main tree with the twin trunk on the left. I had to take off 50% or so of the roots, due to a large tap root.
I dusted it good with rooting hormone then watered well with some superthrive.
The tree in the back left will get pruned back a few inches, it's sticking out aways.

The composition is around 29 inches tall

Please give me some thoughts and input. Thanks. If they make it...I cant wait till fall!

Hi Neil...

Good start on that forest. I like it. The layout of your trees in reference to the size of your rock looks good. Did you reduce the primary tree at all in relationship to the reduction of the root system? One usually calls for the other to an extent. Especially if the tree isn't used to such treatment. I do hope it'll work out for you, it looks like it'll turn into a nice little grouping some day.

Kind Regards,

Thanks for the encouragement.
I had alot of fun with this. I'm now hooked on forests on rocks. (I think it must be mixing the muck that makes it fun). No, I did not reduce the top at all. It will require a little pruning though. The two trunks are equal heights, one needs to be shortened a bit.

Thanks again.
