I like Karls and Davids second firt. You could get lucky and while in a growing box have the tree sprout a branch, I am no good with grafting, I cannot do it, and every time I try, I kill the tree that is being threaded and the tree that is the thread. Karls seems to be more easily acchied and davids first branch on the right seems a little too big, but this tree has some good potential... Personally, and not to sound harsh or mean (which I am not trying to do), windswept is not natural for a decidous or tropical. My reasons for this are that most places that have alot of wind, are not tropical areas...don't get me wrong, they can be done, but part of bonsai for me is to mimic nature, and that does not seems very natural.

This is my suggestion.... It is possible in my opinion, however will take some time... Where the first bend is, I would take a branch bender (one ytou have to buy) and bend it more straight (you will see in my virt), then we have to get the bottom magical branch to grow from the outside part, and within maybe 4 years It would look like the virt. Maybe soon pending on location.

Another thought is to whack the first bend with a sharp object and hopefully when it heals it will send out a branch i have seen it done with tridents but get some more advice before you do it .

Any one else know of this technique ??

You could try to grow that lowest small branch on the right and wire it around to thread graft onto that bend. Does that make sense?

Thanks for all the good Ideas. David's last one sounded the most practical. Funny thing, I actually had a small branch at that bend and chopped it before I knew anything about bonsai. Guess this is all just a learning experience huh?

I'll ponder on the different possibilities until I get my growbox going in the spring. And then decide.

Thanks all.
