My Ficus Retusa - Closed

Hello all,

I would be glad to have some advice and/or your opinion(s) on my bonsai. Many thanks in advance. It is not my first bonsai but I am a newbie!

This forum is great, very interesting, by far the best out there.

Regards,

Hi James,

as I said to you in the private message, I would remove the aerial root from the tree. The other thing to be aware of is to try to get the ramification started close to the trunk. The shoot that appears on the "knee" of the first bend I would remove as well.

Take your time with it and this will be a very good tree.

hey its already famous

I liked Saints suggestions of removing a couple of the smaller branches that were a bit lower down and i did this virt to show what it would look like:
(Attached Pic)

Bu i would also advise that you feed well and make sure the tree is getting enough light in order to boost the foliage and fill the tree out. This is a lovely first, these can sometimes be the nicest bonsai after a few years of good care and styling, so good luck

Rowan

Only thing is to me it now looks to be leaning to the left, a little unbalanced.

Aesthetics is SO personal

Many thanks to all of you for your comments,
Thank you for the virtual Rowan; Saint I will definetly see about the aerial root removal.
I have taken a close up of the aerial, I am a bit concerned because it is fusing with the trunk, I would not want to harm the tree.
Can I get ramification closer to the trunk by constently pruning towards the end of the branches?

Thank you all so much I really apreciate your help.

James

if it's fusing with the trunk, the sooner you remove it the less of a scar you will have. Ficuses heal over quite quickly (at least in the tropics) If you leave it, it will cause the trunk to bulge at the join.
