Mugo Pine Potensai
Hey all. This is my $5 mugo purchased from home depot at the beggining of this spring. As you can see, its a little scarred up from all the branches I removed. Wish I had a before pic to show all of you. Also, Its been through its first budding this season. This is the first pine I worked with and I read that on the apex you should leave the 3 weakest buds on each branch and on the sides, leave the 2 strongest on each branch in order to balance the strength of the tree. Well, the needles extended and what I have is a very pretty siluette. The picture does it no justice. It was a sloppy mess when I bought it and now, in person, you can see that it has an almost perfectly smooth top and a very soft look to it. Any suggestions as to how I should proceed would be appreciated. Thanks!

Here is a close up of its base. I love the initial movement of its powerful trunk as it sweeps over the ground. Has a little reverse taper where the firt branch on the right grows from, but i'm almost positive I'll be stuck with this fault for life. Oh well, atleast I can enjoy it for what it is. A pretty little shohin
Its around 6 inches from base to crown. |
