It could be a light issue too. Mugos like full sun most of the year, maybe a little shade on hot summer afternoons. It looks better than it did last year but not quite up to snuff.

Andre, it's exciting just to keep a tree alive in a pot for a year and very nice to hear from you again.

I've been doing alot of what you're doing and my take on your situation is that you really need to repot in a new or renewed soil mix. You will find lots of suggestions for soil mixes here, or just ask for them. Your tree sinking lower in the pot is a sure tipoff that your soil is way down at the lower end of the scale for desirability. As well as your trees general appearance. It sure looks from the photo as though it is just holding on rather than growing vigorously. It could also use a larger container at this point in its life: something commonly called a "growbox".

I take it that you are living in Washington State. If that means in the Pacific Coast climate, you have a lot of latitude in when you repot. Safest time of year is, however, early to mid Spring and I'd hold off until then. It will also give you time to consider your soil mix and the idea of a growbox.

Anyway. wishing you continued good luck with your tree, Fred

another update!

well, i was surprised to see that my Mugo is growing a lot this year! so I thought it was time to update with some pictures and get some thoughts.

here is last summers since the old picture got messed up above:

and here is a new picture that I just took today:

(this pic is from the opposite side as the first pic)

it's got a lot of new growth coming from all over! Last summer I repotted it, so I guess it likes the new pot and soil enough.

Well, I think i'll probably just let it grow this year once again and not do anything to it since this is the first year it has grown this much. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I'm glad to see this forum is still around. I dont stop in too much.
