Thanks. The bamboo backdrop is one of those beach mat things. I only assumed about the strip joint myself. Hell, I live in Amsterdam, why would I ever go to one?

The acer is having its first year in a bonsai pot - it was sitting in a growing pot for the last 14 years. It lost nearly all decent roots during repotting and subsequently looked unhappy with itself for the whole year. I'm hoping it sorts itself out in 2004...I'm going to put it in akadama in the spring I think.
I bought it as a garden plant at a nursery outside York in Yorkshire about 20 years ago - because I thought it had potential. Jerry

I'm essentially going to pinch it VERY regularly. I got this advice from someone at my club - he even suggested deleafing in spring and then very aggressively pinching all growth. He had a beautiful Ivy with minute leaves, so he knew what he was talking about.
If you look at this photo: http://pictures.bonsaitalk.com/showphoto.php?photo=1211 you can see I've already removed a lot of the larger leaves... Jerry
