juniper help please

Hi
Been here lurking for a while ,, i'll just get to the point . I have some junipers on my property that im thinking of turning into possiable bonsai .As you can see from the pics there big a few 5 feet tall and old around 20 years . What i am thinking is cutting back this spring and waiting to see if they bud back ,then root working next spring and then remove to growing boxes.Any suggestions would be helpful ,and if you live near or in New Jersey and would like to help i have more like this on my land and alot of other stuff that i could give to you for helping ,, peace ,, craig

Of course you can try, but from the pictures it appears that the trees in the first post don't have much potential. There are rather long, straight untapered lengths. The ones in the final 2 attachments might have more possibilities.

I collected a few Tam Junipers from a hedgerow beside the garage. They all relocated okay and I used them for some plants in a Japanese style garden. Two of about a dozen were suitable for bonsai training, but I haven't done much with them. The wood is very brittle and the foliage is kind of feathery and doesn't respond very well to pinching.

Any idea what variety you have there?

Regards,

Matt

not to sure i moved into this house during the summer they do kinda have that feathery look to them ,, i am planing on doing a japanese garden on a little over 2 acers of my property and these junipers dont fit into my plan ,,so maybe i'll cut them back (the ones with a decent trunk ) and see how well they bud back ,, then probaly move the rest or trash them ,, that area were they are at now is going to change ,,

I would do it!!!! I'm sure there's quite a bit to work on in there. I wish i had junipers like that im my yard...You are going to have a fun time digging them out!!!! I'd do it! You will get a lot of experience in styling, and wiring and callious development on the ends of your fingers
