Mas Ishi Kishu Shimpaku

This is a pic of a Kishu Shimpaku I aquired this fall. It is about 19" tall and 14" wide 11" deep. I can't wait to work on this one. I think with a little pruning and the proper pot (what ever it may be) This tree will be nice.

Re: Mas Ishi Kishu Shimpaku

Have to agree with you. This looks like a fun project. The trunk has nice movement. Question it looks like the the 1st and 2nd branch may be bar branches, is this true and if so how are you going to handle it?
Also can we see a better pix of the base.

Re: Mas Ishi Kishu Shimpaku

Hey Jay,
I see where it looks like bar branches but The elevation between the #1 & #2 branches are far enough apart that I think I can work with them as is. The Branch on the left moves up slightly @ a 45deg then goes straight out. This gives it the appearance of a bar branch with the foliage in the way. I just went out and pulled it out of storage and took some other pics of it and removed a little of the foliage (use for cuttings) so you can see into the tree a little better. With out further ado here they are.

Re: Mas Ishi Kishu Shimpaku

Thanks that does answer the question of the bar branches. I think you have a winner, I await the pixs of it as it develops. learning from the work of others is very very useful. Jay

Re: Mas Ishi Kishu Shimpaku

Hi Jay,
I'll keep you posted on its progress. The foliage on the left side is a little weak compared to the right but time and patience will help.
Thanks
Jhill
