Thanks for all the suggestions on the pot. I guess I'll be searching for one that is much shallower. I will have to keep an eye on it this summer for sure if I go that route. In its present pot I've never had a problem with it drying out. I'll post it again when I change pots.
Leesa: Iam working on a few more mames. I've been working them for a few years now and hope to be able to pot them this spring. When i do I'll post them. Thanks Thomas J. Last edited by Thomas_J. : 13-Dec-2002 at 02:32 AM. |

YOU CAN NOT RUSH TIME
|
Hi, LOVE the tree. I do not have Mame size trees at this time. I did go to a collector who was selling off his collection. He had several Mame size trees. He was telling me that it is much harder to keep them properly watered during the summer. He used a large tray with soil and the trees inside the soil inside the tray. He thought it prevented them from drying out so quickly. He also felt that it was proper to have these trees in slightly larger pots than they should be in for the drying thing. When he was preparing a tree for a show, he would repot that tree in the spring into a better (smaller) pot. Thus only having one or two of his Mame in shallow pots at any given time.

I like David's second pot choice myself, however very nice tree, I wish mame sold for that price around here... man I see stuff that size for like 35.00, selling, and its not half as good of stock. Only probelm with a smaller planter is it will require alot more watering as it will be able to retain alot alot less.

Leesa,
I was goofing in Photoshop and........yes it was because of the bar branching. I like the tree very much. It's hard to say without seeing the tree from all angles. I don't do many mame bonsai but have a few. I think i'll look around for some japanese maple seeds. ![]()

I repotted it today with a pot I had bought when I got started in bonsai back in 91. I have never used this pot before, it was stashed in a closet for all those years. Next fall when the leaves turn yellow, I think the two will go together pretty good.
