bonsaiTALK Hint: Did you know you can double click any bonsai term on this page for its definition?

Thanks for the link and the photos. Nice tree. I particularly liked the root over rock cedar elm. Do you know if that tree was collected with the rock?

Thanks Jorge, very cool pictures. It makes me twice as sad that I missed it! I especially wanted to see Bruce Baker's Kidneywood techniques. Oh well...

Yvonne's work on the Natal Plum is amazing. Are either of those Brazilian Rain Trees her's? I heard her BRT tied with Jim's (malhomme's) Pomegranate shohin for second place. Stephen Hendrick's Bald Cypress is inspiring me to do better with my own!

I'm looking forward to the convention in D/FW next year and hope to meet you and other fellow Texan bonsai fans there.

I'm not sure which cedar elm you are talking about. The elm in #11 looks like a ROR but is in fact a sucker off a stump (apart from the bleached wood, this is very natural for the species). The Chinese elm in #62 is planted over stone but I don't think the roots are clasping.

Cheers,
Jim

I think that is a stump. Nice Root-over-Stump though!

The photos were shot by a friend of mine and fellow (bonsai) clubber, Joey. He posts here under "JMac". He takes really good photos yet uses nothing fancy at all.

Our club just had a workshop on bonsai photography. Specifically it was a workshop on how to take portraits of our trees and do it on the cheap. It was the first workshop of its kind since our club began over 40 years ago. I think San Antonio is going to have a similar workshop soon....

Just like bonsai, we all have a lot to learn about bonsai photography!

Cheers,
Jim

Jorge,

I'd also like to say thank you for sharing your photos so that we have multiple views of some of the same trees.

Cheers,
Jim
