Low Light Flowers on Texas Scarlet Quince

I store my trees for the winter in my workspace. It is birmed in on 3 sides. It is passively heated by the sun through very large windows facing south. December through February, the sun shines through these windows very directly. As the sun climbs higher in the sky towards spring, the light becomes much less direct.

This change in the light produces interesting effects in my flowering quinces. Early flowers—those budding and blooming in December and January—are true to type. Later flowers are more pale, sometimes even white due to lower light.

This year, however, for some reason, the results of this change in light have been spectacular, as you can see in the attached picture.

Does anyone have more information on this phenomenon?
