it lived!!!
i collected two hornbeams from the woods behind a friends house - one didnt make it but the other started budding and is doing well. (it had the better rootage anyway!)
has a nice solid trunk just under 3 inches - cant wait to see how it goes the next couple of years i noticed the trunk appears to have a reverse taper alittle over halfway up but its actually just in the photo -the wood in behind it is making it appear to bow out some the trunk has a lot of character too - its hard to tell in the photo but it has those really nice ridges that give it a lot texture depending on the angle you view from. |
