Of Course!

I have a Yaupon Holly that looks very similar to your tree. I was contemplating which way to go with it but left it alone for the moment. I didn't even think of the Live Oak style until I saw your post. The ironic thing is that it is getting afternoon shade from a Live Oak in my back yard! Maybe I should have just looked up during my contemplation?

Mine needs to be thinned out a little also. I think you made a good call on the style direction though.

Thanks Mike.
I said in my original post that it needed to be thinned out a bit. You have just reinforced that. The scissors will come out.

RR ,

I think you may want to deviate some from the traditional rules of proportions- make the canopy a bit wider. As everyone else is suggesting, let the pythonating limbs show through, make foliage pads that are a bit more defined and lumpy but keep the fullness level that you already have.

Thanks Jim. I'll consider that also.

By the way do you recognize that tree. It is the one I loaned you a couple years ago for a potting class with Colin Lewis. Heck old man you didn’t kill it ;o)

It is now in a shallower pot. And styled much in the way you and Colin talked about.

Am beginning to think that I like it better as a cork bark elm. The more I think live oak the more I think that it would ruin the tree if I changed it too much.

Maybe it is time to quit tinkering with it and just call it what it is )

Phewww Glad to hear I didn't kill it! Left as it I still would recommend some undulates to the canopy- it looks too prefectly symetrical. I appreciate the effort though it takes to get that look. Can't seem to pull it off myself...

Guess the tree will stay as it is. I just got an email with a darned good offer for it.
Guess I had better post these things more often )

Hahahaha...

My dear friend....

Need I remind you that you are now RETIRED...lol

(walks away mumbling under her breath about Ron selling a prefectly darling tree in his first weeks in retirement... [chuckling all the way])

Your friend in all things,
