Hello everyone, A very large, old collected Privet under major construction.

Price:6 Pack of XXXX

Happy Growing

Some one on the forum (can't remember who) once told me that jin was completely "out of place" on a ligustrum,...but I must say this looks pretty dang good,...just goes to show ya.

LOOKING GOOD
Keep up the good work and post more pix. What tools are you using for the carving?

Mike

Thanks Mike! originally a chainsaw...then an angle grinder...

The other trunks have yet to be carved but I was lucky enough to have Harry over at bonsaisite.com do an amazing virtual of what the tree will hopefully look like in 5-10 years...

Harry is a very talented guy

Thanks Dave, I'm buying a new landcruiser prado grande this week to go get more trees, so that should be fun....

Even got a tv in the back so the kids won't bug me while I'm digging!

Happy growing mate

GREAT MATERIAL TAI!!!

I love the 5-10 year virtual. It reaminds me of the high altitude limber pines in Naka's techniques I and II. Even though it's not really a pine.

Keep us all updated :-D

I think deadwood resembling that of a high mountain juniper or pine would be unacceptable.

I see plenty of trees with deadwood- jins, shari, uro in my sea-level swampy salt-prairie area... but they don't look anything like what you might find in the mountains. They might be bleached by the salt and sun, smoothed by blowing sands. These eventually break off from wind or rot.

Trees are hollowed out by termites and other insects... humidity and rain cause spongy rot leaving dark rough holes.

A very different image.

As is traditionally thought, deadwood in our climate is relatively fleeting. But it can be enjoyed as a step in a progression.

I think mostly one has to be true to nature, but an occasional venture into the surreal and fantastic can be used when the material cries out for it.
