Large baldies...

BC's collected from an urban landscape in january and rescued from a future construction site. The second one is about 18 inches across at the base...They are both coming back with new growth although the second one a bit slower.

I'm not happy with the container I got for the larger one but I could not find anything shallower.

Looking good Jorge. Good luck with those. Did some of David rub off on you when you guys did that big BC repot? He might have an idea about a training pot. Again, good luck, Larry

Thanks for the comments guys. Mcspeed, we are far from a custom made pot for both of these! Let's talk again in about 5-10 years from now...

Larry, I guess both of us have a thing for BCs. David did give me some advice and moral support on the phone when I was digging the larger one. It took about 6-7 hours to get it off the ground. This was no swamp muck but hard top soil mixed with some compacted gravel.

Nice BCs, Jorge!

That second one is SCHWEET! ... I heard the other day Some folks use baby pools for BCs. Maybe an old beer keg tub or the bottom half of a big trash can?

Man, I've movin' futher south.

Bunjinent:

The kiddie pool idea sounds pretty good. Only problem, it might rot after a few years.
I am actually considring building a large wooden growing box for the second one. I don't want to get too much vertical growth on those roots.

Saw a 35 gallon pond liner thingie at home depot, $30 bucks.......basically a plastic tub. Was eyeballing it for a turtle, but would make a great planting tub for something.

Just because a pot/tub is 2 feet deep doesn't mean you have to fill the whole thing up with soil, several of my plants are in pots that are too deep but I only use the pottom part of the pot to whatever depth I feel is good for the plant. The extra rim sticking up doesn't hurt (except cascades, those are a different story), and helps keep the water / fertilizer on the soil instead of running off .

Nice bc by the way (eyeballing her little guys......)!!!
