Larch
This is one of my larch trees, it is about five years old and been in a bonsai pot since I bought it as a year old sapling. It is a bit ahead of the game this season foliage wise as it has been kept inside after re potting to protect the roots from late frosts.
I'm quite pleased with it but want to thicken up the trunk. Is the best way to do this by letting the lower branches grow freely, or all of them? I realize if I let the lower ones grow the taper should be better on the trunk. I also don't have the space to put it in the ground to thicken it up and as I think it's quite pleasing to the eye want to keep it in it's pot.

How about finding a nice drum pot for it. One that is deeper yet still pleasing to look at. That might offer some growth.

In the ground would be the best and fastest route.-

So if this larch was in the ground, every year he oculd still do maintenence pruning and still have the trunk thicken fast? or isi ti still best to just plant it and dont touch it ?
