Kingsvilles on the rocks

I put this rock structure togetner about 20 or so years ago. About 5 or 6 years ago I attached these 2 old Kingsville boxwoods onto it.
Over the years they have become very well attached, and the roots go into the pot. That's the good news
Now for the bad news. Somehow it got infected with Babytears. Every year I douse them with Roundup, and they turn black and die. I pull them all off, and next year they are back. This thing defines tenacity. I often wonder if anything short of a "nuukequler" bomb will get rid of them permanently
Anyway, the Kingsvilles do well in spite of the competition. Nature is amazing!
Height from pot rim is about 10 inches.

Mike

Mike I feel your pain. I've got a few pots where I have a constant battle with that stuff. I was surprised to see you say you used Round-up on it though. Doesn't that kill trees too?

In prep for my move, I've broken down many of my rock plantings, giving away or repotting trees. Then I did take the nuclear option. I went over all the now-bare rocks with a propane torch! Think that will do it?

Great planting, by the way.

Mike an old remedy for babies tears is to dab them with vinegar. Cheap and effective.

Brian, Roundup is a systemic that only works through the foliage of the plant it's sprayed on. Goes through the vascular system of the plant and kills the roots. At least in the case of most plants. I've been using it for many years with no untoward effects. If some is accidently sprayed where is shouldn't be, just wash it off with the hose. No problem.
See you Sunday?

Mike
