Just got my newest Shimpaku!
Well, after a completely horrible day at work dealing with complete idiots, I came home to a rather nice surprise...
I had ordered a Shimpaku from Todd at Colorado Bonsai, and came home to find it delivered on my doorstep...which is great, because I was hoping to get it in time for my class tomorrow morning, but Todd assured me it would be here. Well, givin the fact that's it's been super uber hot out here lately, I was kinda stressing that I'd get a shriveled brown bush, but low and behold, this tree is awesome! Completely undamaged in the packaging, healthy, and still moist! Just wanted to say thanks to Todd from a VERY SATISFIED CUSTOMER!!!! Here's some pics....whatcha think? Got potential?? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The middle picture looks like the trunk might have some good movement to it. It will definetly need a lot of branch pruning and wiring to bring it into something good looking. For that I would wait though until next spring. It has been my experience that whenever I did major work on a shimpaku at the height of the hot season, the tree usually strerssed out and didn't make it. Now that may be because of the terrible heat we have to endure here in Tx., but You might not want to chance it.
I would just leave it in it's nursery container until next spring and be planning on it's front and what you will need to do to get there, and maybe be eyeballing a new pot for it. Good luck with it ![]()

That's a really nice and big Shimpaku. It shows a lot of possibilities. Can't wait to see what you come up with at your workshop. Good luck!

Looks like it has nice potential. Are you going to use the lower branches to fatten up the trunk or are you okay with the trunk size? Also, how much work are you going to do on a new tree (although as you say it seems healthy) in the middle of summer? Have a fun class and post pictures of the results of your work, thanks.

I'm happy you received the Shimp in time and are happy with it. I think it has a lot of potential too! I'll eagerly awaiting how it will turn out.
