"Junk"

Here is an Austrian pine that I picked up the other day from a local (general) nursery. Believe it or not, the sales guy described it as "junk". (compared to the rest of the monster trees it was sitting among)
The first ("before") shot is a bit deceiving. The branch growing directly backward is actually about 6 ft long. It was the original leader.
How do you guys like the "after" shot? (keep in mind that it has been wired only to obtain a rough image)

ps. Sorry for the quality...I havn't quite figured that out yet.

Kyle,
Nice find! I hope they gave you the "junk" price.
The rough work looks great. I can't wait to see it in a better pot & better photo.
Good work.

What a nice piece of Junk!

You did give him your number for future pieces of Junk right?

I think the work is stellar, you have learned what many of us have been trying to teach for years; you cut a tree down into a bonsai not grow one up into one. That being said make sure you let the tree rest a season before entertaining the idea of re-potting it or you run the risk of seeing a nice bit of work turn yellow, then brown then loose; as in dead.

I did get the "junk" price. Furthermore, I think the main reason he charged me at all was that he saw the "valuable" look in my eyes.
Thanx for the possitive feedback. I've been doing this for four years, and this was the first time I've ever shown my work to other enthusiasts. (or subjected my work to outside criticism)

The tree and the work are worth showing, just don't get impatient and kill the tree in the process. You pruned it back pretty hard so give the root system time to readjust. If the tree were mine my next move would be into a training planter of some sort, to develop some fine roots.
