Juniperus Rigida (not Bonsai-related, Eh)

Hey..

Today when I had nothing to do i decided to go out and train the Juniperus I have been lookin at.. I have NEVER trained a bonsai before so i thought this would give me some experience. The tree grows wild in a little forest near my house and I wouldn't even think about trying to train it as bonsai (people say Rigidas are impossible to keep alive). anyway, this is how it lookED

Jakob,

I don't know who "they" is, but it sounds like "they" don't know what they are talking about. Juniperus rigida (needle juniper) is a classic bonsai subject in Japan.

See e.g. http://www.bonsainl.nl/BPG/BS_A0026.HTM

You might also take a look at this thread: http://forum.bonsaitalk.com/showthr...=&threadid=5786

Best regards,
Carl

(still don't understand anything about ''how-to-post-a-thread-to-bonsaitalk'', my english could be better )

however, I went out to my object and started...
the first thing i did was to cut off all branches which i didn't like, I had no picture inside my head of how I wanted it to look when finished
(I hope I don't get banned from bonsaitalk for that )

well, i kept on cutting branches. Then i cut off the top and made it shorter. I also made some Jin's and a shari.. haha.. I've never read anything about how to make jin's and i don't even know how a shari sould look like, but i did it in my own way (still hope that I don't get banned)

this is how it looked after my ''training''

now I needed some wire.. ah, i found some really good 1mm IRON wire .... With my iron wire and wire-cutter i started to style the tree (which probably will die in a week or two )

after about 15 minutes the tree was ''finished'' and then looked like this:

omc:

''they'', or ''people'' as i changed it to are people i've been talking to about rigidas. ''they'' say that it's ALMOST impossible for a R. to survive in a pot. isn't that true? we have loads of them here

Not really a hard tree to grow given the right climatic conditions but, not a good bonsai subject. My opinion anyway. Others may differ and that is ok.
I do think that there are just to many other junipers that are better suited. BUT THAT IS ONLY MY OPINION.
Gosh I hate doing that but one never knows who will be lurking. Might just be a lover of the COMMUNIS. (or worse)

I don't know about the characteristics of the foliage, but this particular tree looks like it might have potential.

What did that knot of wire accomplish?

Regards,

Matt

Are you suggesting that BonsaiTALK may have been infiltrated by communis sympathizers...?
