Re: Juniperus procumbens nana
Lookin' good, Gary!
Thanks for the info, Matt & Gary. Matt: It's not that if I can afford pre-annealed copper, but if I care so much to order some from at least 1000 km away. As I've said before, there are no bonsai nurseries in Finland. Not much bonsai-related things at all. So, I think I'll stick to the anonized aluminium wire that I can buy almost around the corner. Oh, and Matt, what do you mean by "Les bonsaï, avant de grandir, ça commence par être petit."? I speak french a bit, but my translation would be about "Bonsai, before they get bigger(greater), they begin to be small.".

Re: Juniperus procumbens nana
Yesterday I put another 3 mm AL wire on it and now bending goes much better, however, i find it very difficult to get some 'short' bends in stead of only a couple of larger (more length) bends.
I also have made the 'air-layer' so i am going for a cascade shape. I have read somewhere that for junipers it takes longer to grow roots then for trees with leaves. How long does in normally take to grow roots on a juniper? |

Ronald, it will depend on the length of your growing season. It should make roots the first year but probably not enough to support the tree. I'd plan on two full seasons before removing the layer. This will mean it will have to stay on the tree over winter so it will need good protection, the tiny roots probably can't take too much of a freeze without doing damage. Tony |
