Juniper--Which side Would You Use?

This is a juniper procumbens which I recently worked on. Which side would you use for the front? This is one of the few trees of mine where I like both sides.

This is the other side that I like equally as well.

I would use the first side. I'm not a big fan of the cut mark on the other side.

I'm with Adam - though a shot from the side would give us a better sense of what the trunk movement is like in the plane of the viewer.

Cheers,
Old Mister

I am a fan of the second one, but the cut mark makes a good argument.

I'm for pic one too. Though the trunk does not seem to show as much reverse taper at the soil line in pic two. The canopy is fine in both views.

I go for the second. The floating root was the only determining factor for the decision. Keep up the good work.

You aren't going to get much help here...it sounds like it's a split decision! I would go for #1. A question: could you plant it a little deeper to get rid of the floating root and reverse taper. I've never tried it but keep reading of different ways to develop new roots to develop a new root spread?

I would use the first side, personally. And, I would probably also thread graft on a strong root on the side opposite the branches, and bend out the others more flat. It would serve to visually anchor the tree to the soil, and allow for proper taper to develop.
I would also try adding some bends to the lower branch to see how it looked.

There is an exellent article on thread grafting on Collin Lewis' website.

Potentially, This could be a really wicked cascade tree(non -windswept). The trunk movement is perfect. It already almost has a nice triangle canopy if the lower branch was wired up.

I like the first picture the best probably because of the cut mark but i think the trunk movement's the best in the second.
If I were showing the tree I'd use side one.

I'm also kind of partial to left to right for some reason i haven't figured out yet and probably never will.

Which view do you like best,Thomas J? In the end, that's the best view!
